First started working at Xbox as a contractor during the Durango era and came back full time for Panama. This is all console work and I have touched a lot of features during this time: social, achievements, search, collection.

Description

Durango Era (2013-14)

This is the Xbox One Launch era. At this point in time Metro design language was a big influence on the UI so lots of tiles and blocks. I mainly played visual designer bringing another interaction designer’s wireframes to life during this period

Panama Era (2015-16)

For Panama they wanted to refresh the UI and also increase performance for the new guide direction. Here I mainly focused on social features like clubs, profile, leaderboards and achievements

I often still played visual designer paired with an interaction designer but was much more involved in the feature making process for certain projects

Rare achievement

If an achievement has only been unlocked by less than 10% of the player population, we dubbed it “rare”. We all wanted to make the achievement moment more celebratory, so I teamed up with a motion designer and a sound designer to create a delightful moment.

First though, we did have to align on a metaphor, which I somehow convinced my PM and dev team that the diamond was the only choice ;)

Process

I combed through all that our icon set had to offer and gave some pros and cons and a recommendation

Then I started to sketch to get the ball rolling on motion, and soon after we had back and forth with the a sound designer on windows to create the sparkly sound after our motion designer finished the animation
