I had an amazing opportunity to not only design the employee badge on Xbox, but enough momentum was created to work with multiple teams across the org and have our team unified under one insignia for our biggest hardware release during the pandemic

What is Project Scarlett?
Project Scarlett was the code name for the Xbox Series X that launched in 2020. The final badge design’s typeface pays homage the original teaser trailer’s logo
The final design insignia encompasses all 4 hardware team codes names which are listed in detail below

Process: Existing launch badges’ guidelines
I made guidelines to document our OG badges’s style done by a previous designer (specifically 2001-2013) before we started work on Scarlett’s badge. These are special profile badges for employees only
The 2nd page includes easter eggs, which we knew we wanted to include with Scarlett by incorporating those 4 different hardware codenames
Round one iterations
Spoiler alert: Version A was chosen and was nearly unanimous amongst marketing and design.
Combining all four hardware codenames into one unified insignia was really compelling so we proceeded forward with explorations on color
Exploring and finalizing color
After getting sign off from marketing on the badge direction we went full steam ahead on color explorations. The design team was confident in two options to finalize: (3) Future Blend and (4) Cyberpunk Neon
Comparing to scale and amongst the rest of the existing badges ended up being the final deciding factor on 4A being the final coloring option

Here is the final badge design and in the context of Xbox Profile. If you’re lucky enough you may even spot it in the wild now!
Extended application
The momentum generated from this badge unified all of us at Xbox during a difficult time. The Pandemic continued to isolate everyone but after a huge rally to finish Project Scarlett we found lots of ways to celebrate with memorabilia
